How To Save Money Using Natural Soaps

This question will definitely arise to everyone who is about to / willing to use a Natural soap for the first time. In fact, I did have the same question when I first used the soap.

To Be Honest, Natural soap is not that expensive. You all maybe wondering How & Why ???. So, here let me explain it to you shortly but below is my chart of monthly expense for commercial and natural soaps

I really have a very dry and sensitive skin and so I have used a dove soap for many years as it is mild and slippery. But ever since I started making the natural products, I understood more in detail about the harmful ingredients I was using.

The thing is, after using a commercial soap, I got more acne and dark spots. For a long time I thought it was because of  hormonal imbalance that developed after giving birth to my girls.

I used to go to beauty parlor for facials that cost $50 minimum. And beauticians suggested that I go for microdermabrasion as well since I had a rough skin and wrinkles. They asked me to do frequent visits like every month for microdermabrasion that cost $ 135 / visit.

Can you imagine how expensive this is…

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion treatments use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.

This type of skin rejuvenation is used to treat light scarring, discoloration, sun damage and stretch marks.

What microdermabrasion can do?

  • Improve age spots and blackheads

  • Improve hyperpigmentation (patches of darkened skin)

  • Exfoliate your skin, resulting in a refreshed appearance

  • Lessen the appearance of stretch marks.

  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores

  • Treat acne and the scars left by acne

Microdermabrasion helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that’s abundant when you’re a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.

So, I was not able to afford this and I was worried so much about my skin getting rough and wrinkled.

So, I stared buying Facial Packs from store that costs $5 for one use. But they were not effective too.

Then I did some research and I started making fruit facials at home with whatever fruit I had in my kitchen. My face was looking smooth and bright after using the homemade fruit facials.

But the thing is I barely got time to do facials and sit for an hour idle with my kids around. So I needed a fast and cheap solution.

So I started making soaps and I added fruit into it. When I used my own natural soap for the first time, I felt the difference on my skin. My skin was bright and smooth instantly.

I have been using Natural products for a year now and I don’t go for facials to beauty parlor nor I buy any facial packs anymore. My skin is glowing and bright naturally.

So by this I would like to conclude that using natural soap will save you a lot of money if you are frequently visiting to parlors.

What are Naturals Soaps made of?

Natural soaps are made of 80% natural oils like Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Vegetable Oil, ghee, etc which are very beneficial for skin. I will go over the benefits of natural oils in another post.

So the raw materials are quite expensive but then you have to spend your hard earned money on commercially boxed and packed facials.

What are commercial soaps made of?

Commerical soaps are made of Tallow or pork fat which is cheap and are found abundant. It does not have any significant benefits on skin. And they only use 20% of these fats and remaining are chemicals that are harmful for skin.

I have done a comparison between natural soap and a commercial soap in my previous post, please refer to that for more detailed view.

Cost breakdown for Natural Products

Cost of one Natural Soap 3 oz= $4.5 and it lasts for 3 weeks if used with proper care.

Cost of Lotion 4 oz = $4.5 and it will last for a month or even more. You can buy a lotion/cream if you really have a very dry skin because it is really not needed when you use a natural soap.

Monthly Purchase of natural products = 2 soaps + 1 lotion

=$9 + $4.5

Monthly expense                                        =$13.5

Cost breakdown for Commercial Products

Commercial soap is made of only 20% oils or less. The remaining are the chemicals that are added to boost lather and make the soap hard.

Cost of Commercial Soap 4 oz = $ 2 or less when 6 or more are bought together. And it lasts for 2 to 3 weeks.

Now for obvious reason you will have to buy a lotion because the commercial soaps take the glycerin out so you wont have moisturizing effect on your skin.

Cost of a commercial Lotion 10 oz = $6

Then you wont be satisfied with the looks of skin so you will want to go for a facial

Cost of a facial = $50

Then even after facial your skin will have a smooth appearance only for a week so you will want to do microdermabrasion once in 3 months or less

Cost of microdermabrasion per month = $135/3 = 45

Monthly purchase of commercial products

= 2 soaps + 1 lotion + 1 facial visit + 1 microdermabrasion (optional)

= $3 + $6 + $50 + $45

Monthly Expense   = $104

Based on my personal experience , I would like to conclude saying that the Natural soaps may seem expensive when you buy but the benefits are huge and you can save a ton of money by avoiding your visits to beauty parlor and yet look beautiful naturally.
